What is a Public Intellectual Today: Jelani Cobb

The Graduate Humanities Public Writing Project, as the first engagement of its 2020-21 "What Is A Public Intellectual Today?" speaker series, is proud to present a virtual appearance by Jelani Cobb. 

In this public interview, Cobb and Dr. Zandra L. Jordan, Director of Stanford's Hume Center for Writing and Speaking, will discuss the historicity of 2020's election year, the purpose of the public intellectual, and elements of literary craft. Cobb is a staff writer at the New Yorker and author of Substance of Hope: Barack Obama and the Paradox of Progress, To the Break of Dawn: A Freestyle on the Hip Hop Aesthetic, and The Devil & Dave Chappelle and Other Essays.
