Stanford Humanities Center, Levinthal Hall and on Zoom

In this presentation and Q&A, English Professor and co-director of Stanford Public Humanities Mark Greif will share practical tips and insights about book review assignments in mass-market magazines and newspapers. This conversation is geared for two audiences: scholars who might be interested in writing “public intellectual” book reviews and wish to break into particular publications AND authors of books, scholarly or trade, who want to think more about how books get chosen for review and recognized in the popular press.

Topics include: How to know about upcoming books; timelines; pitch letters; eccentricities of publications; reputational issues; standard book review approaches; DIY publicity for book authors.

If you can't attend in person at the Stanford Humanities Center, you can register for the zoom link here.
